This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe's win in the GT III class 965 World Sportscar Championship season. To celebrate the muscle car's anniversary and previous successes, the company announced that they would be releasing a 50th anniversary edition of the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe.

The price tag on this coveted performance driving car, however, is enough to make you wish that you hadn't broken your piggy bank all of those times in your childhood.

For the souped up special edition model, motor heads will have to shell out a whopping $349,999.

To be fair, the company will only release 50 such vehicles -- and that's more than they have manufactured in the past. "With only six original Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupes built, the racecar became one of the most coveted vehicles in the world," an official new release explains. According to Autoweek, the car is sold as a rolling chassis, however the manufacturers will allow you to include whichever motor you'd like. The first cobra model, however, had a v8 Ford Windsor engine. This particular model comes in aluminum, and has an aesthetic that pays homage to the original model.

The inside boasts modern luxuries with a vintage twist, such as a leaf-springed suspension, wood-rimmed steering, and a black leather interior.

For those who are looking for a discount, the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe is also available for a not-so-measly $179,995.

Both cars, of course, stay true to the model's compact, lightweight feel. Cobras were originally designed as "Corvette Beaters", and weigh as much as 500 pounds less than the other performance driving model. Other race cars can weigh over 3,000 pounds. In contrast, the Cobra usually only weighs around 2,000 pounds.

If you're still looking to ride in style but aren't interested in selling your first born child, your kidney, and your Aunt Suzy's dentures to get it, there are options out there for you.

Shelby cobra car kits allow Cobra enthusiasts to create authentic replications of the roadster. Cobra kit car manufacturers help you select or create the custom roadster of your dreams, and for a quarter of the price.
